The UK federation of worker co-ops is a new type of member-driven body that combines the organising models of a federation, a grassroots union and a movement. It’s a democratic, non-hierarchical organisation run through working groups with a board and part-time workers to support its mission. Membership is made up of about 100 members across different sectors and a handful of worker members across working groups.
The working groups include Board, Digital infrastructure, People, policy & care, Communications, Movement Building, International, and Co-op Support & Development.
There are about 15-20 individual voluntary members who sit on different working groups carrying the strategy and mission forwards alongside four part-time workers including our Secretary and our Own The Future accelerator programme coordinator.
For those interested in standing for the board, we welcome expressions of interest from participating cooperatives. You can send applications to secretary[at]workers[dot]coop. The next election will be at our AGM on 10 September 2026.
